How do you register domain names? How do you register domain names so that they’re legally yours w/o going through an attorney? Isn’t there a “body” that over sees and registers the name?
Are there advertisements [of any kind] on Yahoo-registered domain names? Is Yahoo the best to register with? I'm making a website for my father's small business and I have a few questions about registering a domain name. I've built websites before, but never had my own domain name to work with and I'm a little confused. My first question is where are the best - but also cheap - places to register a domain name? I am planning on using Yahoo's domain registration service, but if there's some place I'm missing that's better, please feel free to tell me! My other, more important question is this: will there be advertisements of any kind on my domain name, if I register it on Yahoo? Let's say I register the domain name dadsbusiness.com and use basic HTML to upload a few web pages - will there be any popups or any ads on the site itself? I've looked all over the Yahoo pages devoted to domain name registration and I can't find the answer to that ANYWHERE. Anyone who can tell me, straight-out, if Yahoo-registered domain names have ads on any of the webpages will not only get ten points, but will get all my appreciation!

I use a registarar to register my domain names. I want to host the domains on my servers.? The registerar has a control panel for each domain i register with them. In this control panel, i point the A records and MX records to my static IP address. My static IP is provided by BrightHouse and I have a robust router, with 2 internal IPs for 2 servers. Server1 has the IIS sites (physical hosting and FTP sites), server2 will soon have the email server (SmarterMail). With a configuration like this, do i need a DNS server in this mix or not? I am using the registarars DNS to point the domain names to my static IP..within my network, to have the smartermail 4.x recognize the IIS server do i need a DNS server? thank you,
Can someone take my domain names and idea? I have registered domains names and set up a limited company in the UK. I intend to trademark the brand name of my company soon but do not have a trademark anywhere in the world. However, in that time, if someone else sees my websites and decided to trademark it (for monetary gain) will their application be accepted and can they force me to hand over my company and domain names. One example was when on the BBC2 show 'The Apprentice' - You're Fired show, the presenter announced the name of the company ( called Xenon Green) and within minutes someone registered the domain names. Where do I stand?

Is there a difference between buying and registering domain names? You can go to dozens of sites and register a domain for $5-25/year, but I've seen auctions for $500+ k domains. Is this just a fee for transfering the registration? When you 'buy' a domain, is it yours forever until you sell it? Who exactly are you 'registering' a domain with? I'm sure the for profit companies like GoDaddy aren't regulatory bodies, so when you register it... where does that go? Does anyone here _know_ the answers? Or know where I can find them? Thanks in advance.

Where can I register a domain name for cheap? I already have a hosting package and only need to register a domain name then point the dns to the right place. Where can I register a name for less than $7-$10? Ok, i guess I have to explain more. I need a .com domain name. Are there any websites that can let you register a free domain name? I mean the kind when you just register a domain name for free without any other offers. How do I register a domain name w/e-mail address, built a website, and host/upload/run it? I've heard people say there are three things: "cheap, fast, good" and you can only have 2 out of the three. I'm willing to put in time learning and building my own site, but I don't have any knowledge of the technology so I don't know where to start. I've heard peple recommend programs like FLASH for building a website. But, I don't know where/with whom I should register a domain name, and then where to go from there. Which comes first-- domain name, hosting, building? I don't understand the connection between all of these things, hence, my stagnating confusion. Please Help!
Is it ok for a foreigner to register domain name via a UK domain registrar? I am a foreigner who needs to register domain names, I believe normally one would do this via a domain name registrar from their own country, but internet research tells me for certain domain extension, it is cheaper to register from a registrar from foreign countries, such as USA or UK. For a while, I wanted to register domain names via GoDaddy.com which is an American domain registrar, but in registering, I am asked to input my bank information from a US bank which I do not have.(and I selected to pay via PayPal instead of otherwise), since I do not have one US bank account, at last I gave up registering via GoDaddy, but I still want to give it a try via some reliable UK registrar. Before doing do, I want to find out if it is ok for my case to register via a UK registar. Besides, could everybody recommend a few really reliable UK registrars with good reputation. Thank everybody in advance.
What expiring domain names do people register? I want a domain name that's expiring in the next few days but I don't want to pay ridiculous backorder fees. The domain was free until a little more than a year ago and a student from China used it as a portfolio for about 6 months and then it was left empty until it expired. Now that the old owner doesn't seem like a threat what kind of domains do people mass register just to resell? The one I want has no nouns in it and has a hyphen. It also doesn't resemble any known abbreviations so what do you think the chances are it won't get snatched up? Also, about what time on the deleted day are domains released? I didn't mean the domain has no nouns I meant no words found in the dictionary (nouns, verbs, pronouns, anything).
Register domain name without "www"? Is there a way I can register a domain name without the "www" in front? I know that most of the domain registration services automatically puts the "www" in front so you don't really have a choice. But would it be possible to ONLY register something like "example.com" and not "www.example.com"? Thanks!

Registering domain names? This weekend I was in my boyfriend's car with him and I found a paper in his glove box where he had registered a domain name. He became VERY angry and snatched it away from me. Needless to say, I am determined to find out what it was about. The only info I was able to see was that it was registered with "GoDaddy" and a partial email address he had used in registration something like "kel@legacy...". I wasn't able to catch the rest of the email address. I can't even find the site that offers this address...does anyone know what it is? Any way I can find the address with only part of it? Any help appreciated! I don't need relationship advice! If you don't have an answer to the question, please don't answer!
APlus.net. Scam or Professional. Are domain names being stolen from customers? Our business partner has gone to APlus.net to register domain names. The site informs him that the names are available, he pays, prints his receipt. Then, sometimes days later, he gets a strange email that the Domain names are not available. We have investigated this and found that some of the domain names, that were available, were supposedly registered in 1998, etc. a) Is anyone else having trouble like this with APLus.net Their own rep said that it is virtually impossible for names to come up as AVAILABLE when they are not. Thus, for my business partner to have this happen numerous times, something seems fishy, based on our experiences and proof. The web must have integrity and this can only be done by forcing more honesty onto firms who put money before honesty. It is possible that there are people on the INSIDE who work together, and that the owners of APlus.net do not know about this, but APlus.net is caught in another lie also. Google it...
How do I register a domain name without using someone like godaddy.com? What about just buying a domain name? I mean, how does godaddy (or whoever) buy them? It seems like the process with a site like godaddy would go like this: - I tell them the domain that I want (which is not currently being used) - They somehow buy it - They then turn around and rent it to me. Then when/if I decide I no longer to pay them they take it away. Or worse, some big company decided they want it and godaddy sells my domain name out from under me. I wouldn't mind renting the domain name from someone if they already owned it, but no one does. There must be a way to register the name, I would assume I would go through some agency or something. Godaddy is doing what I am talking about, I just want to know how they do it.
